My mother has always loved Renaissance art, and my appreciation comes from her. Several years ago she suggested that we take a spare room in our house and convert it into a ‘Renaissance Room’, with the main feature being a life size reproduction of a fresco panel by Benozzo Gozzoli – ”The Procession of the Magi’. The original is in Florence, in the chapel of the Medici Riccardi Palace.
Little did we know what a project we were starting! We were in no rush and as a result it probably took 10 years to complete. It was featured in Scottish TV and print news when we finished. I painted the majority of the mural, and the coat of arms above the door, the column of decorative accents on the left of the mural and the trompe l’oeil ceiling. My mother painted the group of people walking down the left side.
This mural was painted using a mixture of interior latex paint and acrylic artists paint. The gold detailing on the central character was painted with enamel.
